Shadowcat

Born to a simple life, computer genius, Kitty Pryde's, life was changed, when she learned that she had the mutant power to phase through solid materials. After being kidnapped by the White Queen, Kitty joined the X-Men, as its spoiled bratty, easily angered member, and has been fighting for the peaceful coexistence of mutants and humans most of her life. Originally befriending senior member Storm, Kitty found a life-long best friend in Illyana Rasputin. While being attacked by the Brood, Kitty met the small dragon Lockheed, who she kept as a pet. Unable to decide on a codename, Kitty went-by Sprite, then Ariel, before being possessed by Ogun and learning ninjitsu, when she settled on the codename Shadowcat. After an attack by Harpoon, Kitty was stuck in her phasing state and almost faded into nothing, until she was saved by a combined effort of Mr. Fantastic and Dr. Doom. While recovering on Muir Island, Kitty believed that the X-Men had all died and she, with the two other surviving X-Men, founded Excalibur. After Ogun's spirit had taken control of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier's computer system's, G. W. Bridge recruited Kitty to become a temporary S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. After returning to Excalibur, Shadowcat eventually returned to the X-Men. Following the tragic death of Colossus, and too many loved ones before him, Kitty left the team to find a new way to help realize Professor Charles Xavier's dream of peaceful coexistence between man and mutant, which led her to a life away from the front lines of genetic conflict at Robert Heinlein University. Kitty later joined a splinter X-Men group led by Storm, X-Treme X-Men, but returned to the X-Men. After traveling to the Breakworld, Kitty sacrificed herself to phase a planet-sized bullet fired at the Earth and simply was lost to space, until Magneto used the fullest of his abilities to return her. Once again stuck in an intangible state, Kitty was forced to wear a containment suit, until she was killed and revived, by Haleena of the Breakworld, and regained her physical body. Kitty is now a head mistress of The Jean Grey School For Higher Learning.

Wolverine and the X-Men[]

Following the dissolution of the X-Men into to separate factions with Cyclops and those with Wolverine and after following the events of Schism, Kitty heads back to Westchester with Wolverine and others. There, she becomes Madam Headmistress of "The Jean Grey School for Higher Learning" alongside Wolverine as the headmaster. She attempts to show inspectors from the states education board around the school in order to persuade them not to shut the school, although things have yet to go according to plan as the visit proved disastrous.

Kitty will also be teaching part of the curriculum at the school, including "Ethics 101L Forgetting Everything You Ever Learned From Emma Frost", "Future History 101: Mapping What We Know About the World of Tomorrow" and "Computer-Hacking 101: ONLY FOR USE TO SAVE THE DAY!", while also running a Fencing Team. At the end of Wolverine and the X-Men #4, it is revealed, much to Kitty's surprised, that she is pregnant.

Initially, she confined herself to her room as she tried to come to terms with this revelation and to try and understand how it had happened. After much soul-searching she eventually sought help from Beast and Rachel Summers. Upon further examination it was discovered that Kitty was not in fact pregnant at all, but rather was infected by a swarm of microscopic Brood. With help from the students and fellow X-Men, Kitty managed to remove the Brood from her system and she returned to normal. She also kissed Iceman telling him she was afraid of growing up. She has remained at the school to continue teaching the students while the Avengers fought the X-Men during the return of the Phoenix. Despite these good intentions, conflict soon reach the school. During an altercation between certain X-Men and the Avengers ordered to keep an eye on the school a battle broke out around the school. Kitty, angry at the conflict on peaceful ground and injury to her students, could no longer sit on the sidelines and aided Rogue in defeating the AI controlled Iron Man suit.

After the events of Avengers vs X-Men, Kitty and Iceman's relationship has progressed to a full relationship. Kitty recently had to let Husk go due to her mental instability and she hired Storm due to the mutant population being restarted and influx of new students coming to the school. She was recently brainwashed by the Frankenstein circus along with the other teachers to attack the students. They were saved and continued there jobs.

All New X-Men[]

Kitty was there when Beast brought the original five X-Men to the future. She helped him when his further mutation caused an episode of him severe pain resulting in him passing out. During the operation she was terrified and that Beast could have died. The past Hank asked her and everyone to leave but not Jean. When Jean discovered her future she was shocked and kitty brought her outside to give her some air. She was relived that beast did not die but mutated into a new form.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

Shadowcat is a mutant.

Phasing/Intangibility: Shadowcat possessed the ability to pass through solid matter and objects by passing her atoms through the spaces between the atoms of the object through which she was moving. In this way she and the object through which she was passing could temporarily merge without interacting, and each was unharmed when Shadowcat had finished passing through the object. This process was called "phasing." When Shadowcat was phasing, she was, for all intents ad purposes, intangible. Hence, when attacked, she could shift into a "phasing" state (even if she was not at the time passing through an object) so as to allow oncoming projectiles or energy blasts to pass through her harmlessly. Shadowcat passed through objects at the same rate of speed at which she was moving before she "entered" it. Following her serious injuries at the hands of the Marauders during the Mutant Massacre, Kitty's phased state became her natural state. She only remains solid by concentrating, and reverts to her phased state if that concentration is disrupted.

  • Selective Intangibility: Allows others to become intangible and make other objects intangible by making them pass through other massive solid objects easily such as buildings, planes, and trains.
  • Elemental Intangibility: Allow elemental attacks to pass harmlessly through her such as water, fire, earth, air, energy, electricity, and even lightning.
  • Physical Disruption: Kitty can easily damage tangible matter by passing right through it.
  • Non-Corporeal Physiology: Kitty's intangibility/phasing abilities make her practically untouchable.
  • Air & Water Walking: Using her phasing/intangibility ability, Shadowcat can freely walk on both air and water. In fact, she could use her ability to walk on water and the air from the ground to the upper stories of a building as if she were climbing a staircase.
  • Phasing/Intangibility Extension: From the first use of her phasing power, Shadowcat was able to phase her clothing along with herself. Through practice she learned to phase other objects along with herself without harm to them, and at one point phased an entire X-Men team. She could also enable someone as big as Colossus to "walk on air" along with her. However, she had to maintain physical contact with the people or objects she phased along with herself for the effect to work with this other person or object.
  • Camouflage: Kitty can easily bend into the colors of her immediate surroundings and environments, practically making her invisible to anything seen to the naked eye.
  • Shadow Camouflage: Shadowcat can also become completely invisible and unseen in shadows.
  • Electronic Disruption: She could phase through any material object, even living people. When she phased through an object with an electrical system, the process disrupted the system's workings.
  • Telepathic Resistance: Her thoughts were highly erratic when phased as if there was no mind to telepathically affect.
  • Cloaking: Kitty can hide herself and others from any type of optical eyesight.

Abilities[]

Expert Martial Artist: Shadowcat possessed moderate expertise of the martial arts of the Japanese ninja and samurai. Shadowcat demonstrated great knowledge of ninja methods of combat when she was mentally possessed by the Ronin Ogun. With the possession over, Shadowcat forgot the knowledge of ninja techniques he gave her, but she retained the knowledge of Oriental methods of combat taught her by Wolverine.

Dance Training: She continued to take dance training under the tutelage of Stevie Hunter, and was highly agile.

Genius-level Computer Expert: Shadowcat was an expert in the field of computer science, demonstrating genius-level aptitude for programming, modifying, and diagnosing almost any computer system: even those of unfamiliar human and extraterrestrial origin. She used her skills in many high-stress combat situations to great effect, and in combination with her mutant ability to disrupt electrical systems she was a formidable foe for any enemy relying on advanced technology. She was the equal and peer of her former hacking partner Cypher (deceased) whose mutant gift for languages granted him superhuman skill in the same field.

Multi-lingual: She also fluently spoke Japanese, Russian, Shi'ar, Skrull, and German. (Most, if not all of these, were learned telepathically; her use of Skrull, at least, was used briefly after being learned and then not mentioned again.)

Strength level[]

Normal human with moderate regular exercise.

Weaknesses[]

Mystical Vulnerability: While phasing Shadowcat was still vulnerable to mystical attack, however.

Phasing Limitations: Since she was unable to breathe while "inside" an object, she could only continuously phase through solid objects (as when she traveled underground) as long as she could hold her breath. Denser materials were more difficult for Kitty to phase through, sometimes causing her pain. Solidifying while in an object could cause serious injury if not death. As it is an active ability, if she can't see an attack coming, she can't phase through it, a fact that the mercenary known as Deadpool once exploited when he knocked her out (taking her by suprise) in order to provoke Wolverine into fighting him for his amusement.

Paraphernalia[]

Transportation[]

X-Men Blackbird, formerly Professor Xavier's Rolls Royce.

Weapons[]

Wolverine gave Kitty a broken piece of his bone claws. On certain occasions, she carried it.
